Your family land is an asset.
If you want clarity on your family’s land, you need a long-term plan. The resources available through the Heirs Property Information Project can help by providing legal, financial, federal, academic and other curated resources to help family landowners get the most out of their property now and in the future. We also work with heirs property researchers, service providers, policy makers, and others to help families protect their land.
The Heirs Property Information Project was founded by Karama Neal, PhD, a family landowner, in response to the numerous requests for information she receives following her writing and speaking on the topic. The HPIP is initially focused on family landowners in states that have passed the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act and will expand as needed to include other states, research topics, and resources.
Resources include Information Source sheets for states that have passed the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act (UPHPA), free Descendant Record Charts for recording family tree information, and a free Grassroots Action Guide for those interested in passing the UPHPA in their state. Information is available through the links at right.
In addition written resources of the Heirs Property Information Project, Neal Firm offers heirs property related:
- Educational workshops - Topics include Understanding Heirs Property. Developing Your Family Tree, Making Your Property Productive, and more.
- Private consultations - Tailored to the family’s property, consultations can help educate the next generation. identify uses and financing for property, and more.
- Family mediations - For families who are in disagreement about their property, mediation can help members come to alignment through a self-determined, facilitated, non-adversarial process. Neal Firm typically holds virtual mediations to accommodate family members in different locations.
